NYC Theatrical Premiere, One Week Only!

Joanna Newsom in THE FAMILY JAMS

"(CRITICS' PICK!) THE FAMILY JAMS may not ever attain the stature of, say, a concert film like DA Pennebaker's DONT LOOK BACK. But it should, as a record of musicians in youthful flower, sharing a loose, heartfelt camaraderie and lack of pretension."
- Andy Webster, THE NEW YORK TIMES

"Time makes Mr. Barker's modest film a more valuable pop-culture artifact than he might have imagined, but its charms guarantee enjoyable viewing even if these folks had vanished into obscurity."
- Steve Dollar, THE WALL STREET JOURNAL

"A curiously effective musical docu that captures the raw dynamics of collective creativity... JAMS affords the opportunity to hang with gifted, genre-defying fringe artists at a pivotal point in their evolving careers."
- Ronnie Scheib, VARIETY

An evocative rock-n-roll portrait of youthful possibility, THE FAMILY JAMS catches three musical acts at the fleeting moment when they transcended the world they built for themselves and everyone else took notice. The directorial debut from filmmaker-musician Kevin Barker makes its NYC theatrical premiere with a week-long run, April 8 - 14.

THE FAMILY JAMS follows freak-folk luminaries Devendra Banhart, Joanna Newsom and melodious pop-rocker Andy Cabic (of Vetiver) as they tour the USA in 2004, playing their unique music for a newly growing audience. A candid document of a makeshift clan and their life on the road, the film captures today's indie headliners as they were still gigging at obscure hole-in-the-wall clubs and art galleries -- their small, intimate vans replaced later by large, impersonal tour buses. The film also features appearances and performances by Antony and the Johnsons, Espers, Meg Baird, The Pleased and Linda Perhacs.

81 minutes. In English. Presented in Blu-ray. Unrated. A Factory 25 Release.
